_______

Vignettes

  1. Strength Through Crisis
  2. Hello, Ms. Julia!

Vignette (n.) – a brief evocative description, account, or episode. The first of my vignettes, “Strength Through Crisis,” is a portrait of my dad. Over the last few years, my dad has battled cancer, and this year, he was finally declared cancer-free. Even at the worst moments, he celebrated each day, never letting the hardships bring down his spirit. The second vignette “Hello, Ms. Julia!” is a description of my younger sister. As a basketball and swim coach, my sister is the epitome of quirky, boundless energy. It is so fun to watch her interreact with all of her players and see how they run up to her and tell her about their day.

Haunt

Premiered at the TurnUp Multimedia Festival for Women Artists on April 14, 2018.

_______

“Haunt, a collaboration between composer Rachel Elizabeth Matthews and integrated media designer Ashton Bennett Murphy, explores the manipulation of the human voice and everyday noises into an unearthly, abstract soundscape. The piece originates from field recordings of mezzo-soprano Jill Morgan and other seemingly mundane sounds. As the piece developed, what began as beautiful morphed into ominous; stunning vocal technique morphed into an unsettling refrain. Simultaneously, the media focuses on the vocals, taking a traditional image of a waveform and transforming it into the unexpected and exciting.”

The Pathless Woods – The Rogue Trio

Live recording from Fifth House Ensemble’s Fresh Inc. Festival on June 19, 2016 in Bedford Hall at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Performed by the Rogue Trio (Kathleen Strahm [violin], Justin Rollefson [alto saxophone], Mary Strobel-Price [piano])

_______

“The act of stepping off the well-marked trail is both unnerving and freeing. “The Pathless Woods” delves into this beautiful world, exploring the wind through the trees, the chirping of the birds, and the rustling and chattering of the squirrels and chipmunks as they scurry through the brush as we listen and relish in this gentle, unencumbered wildness.”
